Know Your Numbers! Week
6 September, 2021 (All day) to 12 September, 2021 (All day)

Know your Numbers Week is the UK’s biggest and most far reaching blood pressure testing event and awareness week. Each year, hundreds of “Pressure Stations” offer free blood pressure checks across the UK, enabling thousands of people to get a free blood pressure check.

It encourages adults across the UK to know their blood pressure numbers and take the necessary action to reach and maintain a healthy blood pressure.

High blood pressure usually has no symptoms, which is why is it often referred to as the silent killer. The only way to know you have it is to have a check.

Therefore we want to encourage ALL family members to check their blood pressure, so if detected, it can be easily treated thereby reducing your risk of a stroke or heart disease.

What does a blood pressure reading look like?

When you have your blood pressure measured, you will be given two numbers, a top number and a bottom number.

  • Systolic blood pressure. This is the first, or top, number. This is the highest level your blood pressure reaches when your heart beats, forcing blood around your body.

  • Diastolic blood pressure. The second number, or bottom number, is the lowest level your blood pressure reaches as your heart relaxes between beats.

Know Your Numbers! Week 2021 is taking place from 6-12 September. We're focusing on a golden opportunity to improve blood pressure control both now and in the future - we want to make this the year of home monitoring and we need your help to spread the word in your community.

If you would like to be involved or simply share the message –register your interest now to take part and run a Pressure Station.
