World Autism Month
World Autism Month, organised by Autism NI, takes place every April and encourages people across Northern Ireland to get involved in celebrating and supporting the autistic community. Each year has a theme—in this case focusing on colour to represent the diversity of the autism spectrum—and promotes the message “Be Kind to Different Minds.” The campaign aims to highlight understanding, kindness, and inclusion, while raising awareness of the experiences of autistic people and their families.
Throughout the month, individuals, schools, workplaces, and communities are encouraged to take part through fundraising events, personal challenges, and social media campaigns. Activities such as colour-themed events, runs, and school initiatives help raise money for local autism services and spread positive messages. The overall goal is to inspire people to support autistic individuals, not just during April, but all year round, helping to build a more inclusive and accepting society.
