Beat - Digital Helpline Volunteers

We have an exciting recruitment opportunity! We are looking for digital helpline volunteers to support our new opening hours between 8pm-midnight on select days of the week (Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays). This is a great opportunity to help support those affected by eating disorders, and to truly make a difference. More information and an application form below.

About the role

Digital Helpline Volunteers are a national team of volunteers who assist our Helpline by offering support to sufferers and parents/carers/partners/friends of sufferers of eating disorders such as anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, binge eating disorder, ARFID and OSFED. Helping people of all ages and backgrounds, you will be responding to emails from service users, web chats, and facilitating our nightly online support groups.

In return for your time you’ll:

  • Enjoy being part of a growing volunteer community.
  • Receive monthly supervision from a dedicated coach.
  • Have access to tailored development training as well as induction training, training around different types of eating disorders and safeguarding training.
  • Learn communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Enhance your CV and widen job prospects.
  • Have a real positive impact on people’s lives.
  • Volunteer from the comfort of your own home. This opportunity is remote, so you can choose your regular two-hour shift each week and log on from home.

Recruitment Process

Please download the application form below, complete and upload to the website via the form on this page. Applications via email will not be accepted. If you are successful, you will be invited to an interview via a web conferencing platform.

After passing the interview stage, and giving receipt of satisfactory references, you will be invited to induction training via a web conferencing platform, which will be held over four 90-minute training sessions. After attending all of these sessions, and completing a small task to demonstrate the skills learnt in training, you will be able to begin your volunteering journey with Beat.

Considerations

We welcome applications from people over 18 with experience of eating disorders either through a personal experience, as a parent/carer or professionally who can commit to the volunteer role for at least one year. If you have personal experience of eating disorders, we ask you to meet our recovery criteria in order to safeguard your own wellbeing. We ask that you are recovered, have not displayed any symptoms of eating distress, nor received any treatment, therapy or counselling for eating issues for a minimum period of two years.

Applications and Information

Applicants do not need any prior experience of volunteering or working with those with eating disorders. Beat is firmly committed to diversity in all areas of our work. We are dedicated to developing and maintaining an organisation in which differing ideas, abilities, backgrounds and needs are fostered and valued, and those with diverse backgrounds and experiences can participate and contribute.

We value all volunteers and celebrate their diverse and unique identity and background, including (but not exclusively) religious belief, social background, ethnic and national origin, gender, sexual orientation, disability or age. We will regularly evaluate and monitor our progress towards diversity.
