RNID - Home-Based Telephone Hearing Aid Support Volunteer in Northern Ireland

Provide hearing aid information to NHS hearing aid users in Northern Ireland by phone.

Home-based in Northern Ireland. You need to live in Northern Ireland and be 18 or older for this role.

What you’ll be doing

As a home-based telephone hearing aid support volunteer in Northern Ireland you will:

  • offer information and signposting to service users by phone to enable them to optimise their NHS hearing aid(s). Guidance notes will be provided
  • provide service users or their family members with information leaflets or refer them to a staff member for assistance with cleaning their NHS hearing aid(s)
  • signpost service users or their family members to the relevant Audiology department for urgent hearing aid repairs via postal or drop-in services
  • provide information about other support services for hard of hearing people, such as sensory support, befriending and tinnitus support
  • complete relevant paperwork during the phone call
  • keep all information given or discussed within the service confidential
  • promote the work of Action on Hearing Loss

What you need

It would be good if you:

  • have good interpersonal and communication skills
  • have a friendly, reliable and approachable manner
  • have the ability to listen to questions and to answer appropriately signposting to Action on Hearing Loss staff or audiology as required
  • are happy to work with a wide range of people
  • have knowledge of or willingness to learn about issues affecting people with deafness, hearing loss or tinnitus
  • are a hearing aid user or have a good understanding of the issues faced by people with hearing loss
