Be UV Aware

Cancer

Summer is a high risk time for exposure to the sun's ultraviloet (UV) rays. Luckily, the Met Office have a handy UV index forecast, which allows you to identify the strength of UV radiation at a particular place and on a specific day.

It's important to be aware of the UV strength as this allows you to take the necessary precautions to help reduce the impact of UV on your health. Sunlight is an essential exposure for health, however, it carries a high risk. The level of risk and strength of UV radiation vary all over the world. The time of year and different weather factors such as the amount of cloud cover can all affect UV strength.

Small amounts of exposure can be beneficial to the production of vitamin D, however, over exposure can lead to serious health issues.
