Eating Disorders Association NI - Workshops For Schools

Although attitudes and perceptions are changing, Eating Disorders Association recognises that there continues to be a lack of knowledge and understanding surrounding the severity and nature of eating disorders, both amongst the general population and professionals.

A lack of societal understanding can often prove a to be a barrier to recovery for those with eating disorders and societal stigma can often lead those affected to feel ostracised or misunderstood.

Although eating disorders affect everyone, research has shown that adolescence is a particularly susceptible stage for the development of an eating disorder. With this knowledge, Eating Disorders Association (N.I.) provides free early intervention/prevention workshops to secondary school age young people.

Our school workshops aim to empower young people, giving them the tools to develop positive mental health and well-being. Our workshops for schools and community groups cover issues such as, understanding eating disorders, developing positive body image and self-esteem, improving media literacy and what to do if you are worried about yourself or a friend.

The workshops typically last about 60-90 minutes and we recommend the workshops be delivered to small group numbers so as to allow for interaction and engagement. We are happy to attend your school or group on multiple occasions to help facilitate this should this be required. We recognise that may not always be possible or feasible for every school/group so please do get in touch and we can arrange a workshop to best suit your needs.
