Storm Safety
Storms can wreak havoc, causing power outages and damaging property. In some cases, when the weather becomes extreme, they can also be frightening experiences.
Each storm is different and flooding, thunder and lightening can all be different features of this type of weather. The consequences of a storm can also change depending on the severity of the weather and when they strike. Find out what to do when a storm is forecast to prepare and keep safe.
Preparing for a storm
- Check online for weather warnings and updates
- Find out who your electricity or gas suppliers are
- Un-plug non essential electrical appliances
- Close and secure doors and windows
- Secure loose objects that could be blown away and cause damage
- Prepare an emergency kit. Include a torch, radio, matches, and a list of emergency contact numbers.
- Park vehicles in a garage, or clear from buildings, trees, walls and fences.
Keeping safe during a storm
