Keep warm and well during the cold weather

As the temperatures begin to drop, and the cold winds from Russia arrive in Northern Ireland, The Public Health Agency (PHA) is advising everyone to look after themselves and their neighbours during the cold snap.

For some, the onset of the cold can bring many hazards. Vulnerable and older people can find it difficult to get out to the shops or to keep their house adequately heated during the cold weather, putting them at risk. The PHA is encouraging everyone to look out for those who may be more vulnerable during the cold weather and check if they’re ok.

Stay warm and well during the cold spell

  • Wear multiple layers of clothing
  • Eat well – food is a source of energy which helps your body warm
  • Heat your main living room to around 18-21 degrees Celsius
  • Make sure your heating is safe and beware of carbon monoxide poisoning
  • When you go outside wear a coat, hat, scarf and gloves
  • Check on older or vulnerable neighbours
