10 Years Of Pension Wise

Pensions and Retirement

Pension Wise is a free appointment you can book to help you understand your options if you have a Defined Contribution (DC) pension. You can make an appointment when you’re over 50, or under 50 and retiring early due to poor health.

If a Pension Wise appointment isn’t suitable for you, you can still talk to a pensions expert. MoneyHelper’s helpline or live chat is open to anyone, no matter your age or what type of pension you have.

During your Pension Wise appointment our experts will talk you through the choices you can make with your pension, including:

  • taking a tax-free lump sum
  • buying an annuity
  • taking your pension flexibly (pension drawdown)
  • deciding when to retire.

There’s now the choice to have your appointment online, over the phone or face-to-face. Nearly 9 in 10 people said their telephone Pension Wise appointment helped them better understand their pension options.

Pension Wise help thousands of people per week

Pension Wise has grown significantly since the service was launched in 2015. In the last five years over half a million people have attended a Pension Wise appointment, that’s roughly more than 274 each day.

Pension Wise joined with Money Advice Service and The Pensions Advisory Service in 2019 to create an organisation that’s now called the Money and Pensions Service, with MoneyHelper as our consumer facing brand.

You can now get guidance about your pension instantly from the MoneyHelper site. MoneyHelper’s Pension calculator can help you add up what you have and work out what to expect once you retire.

It’s important that you understand your pension before starting to think about retirement. A free and impartial Pension Wise appointment can help you to better understand your options before you make any big decisions.

You can book your Pension Wise appointment here. We also have an active pensions Facebook group where you can ask questions, get support and learn more from our community.

Here’s to the next 10 years!
