Keep cosy this Autumn

Savings

Insulate your home and save money.

Autumn is a good time to get your home winter ready. Good insulation keeps warmth in, reduces drafts, and lowers heating bills, making your home cosy in winter and cool in summer.

Where to begin?

  • Loft insulation – Up to 25% of heat can escape through the roof. Topping up loft insulation to at least 270mm can make a big difference.

  • Cavity wall insulation – Most homes built after 1920 have cavity walls. Filling these gaps reduces heat loss and helps keep warmth in.

  • Solid wall insulation – Older properties may benefit from internal or external insulation. Though more costly, the rewards in warmth and savings can be significant.

  • Windows – Consider upgrading to double or triple glazing. If that’s not possible, thermal films and heavy curtains provide a budget-friendly boost.

  • Draught-proofing – Simple steps like sealing gaps around doors, letterboxes, and chimneys can stop cold air sneaking in.

Help with costs

Schemes like the Affordable Warmth Scheme and the Northern Ireland Sustainable Energy Programme offer grants to support insulation upgrades. Find out more energy saving information here: Support with High Energy Costs  and Energy Efficiency page on our website.
