New Year, New Budget

Managing Your Money

As the new year begins, you may be thinking about a new year’s resolution to manage your household budget. Our free online budgeting tool can help you. It provides you with a spending report that allows you to easily review your spending and see where your money is going.

You can also see what typical households in Northern Ireland are spending in areas such as energy, food, and travel costs. This can help you see how your spending compares against other households and potentially identify key areas to cut costs.

There is no need to enter any sensitive personal or banking information, as our budgeting tool is straightforward to use and only requires you to enter your income and outgoings.

This budgeting tool aims to help you understand what you are spending your money on. You enter income and expenditure figures which results in a report that helps identify major areas of spending. It also tells you what money you have left over at the end of the month. It is totally anonymous and The Consumer Council will not record any of your personal data.

The accuracy of your final report depends on the accuracy of figures you provide. It is possible to estimate some of your expenditure amounts, but it may be helpful to work through the tool when you have access to your bank account statement and a copy of some of your key bills. You won’t be able to save your progress so make sure you are ready before you get started.

Please note: the income and expenditure items listed are designed to be as comprehensive as possible and not everyone will need to input a value for every item.
