Time to Talk Day the nation’s biggest mental health conversation is taking place on Thursday 2 February. Happening every year, it is a day for colleagues and workplaces to come together to talk, listen and change lives. We know the more conversations we have; the better life is for everyone. Talking about mental health is not always easy, but a conversation has the power to change lives. We are encouraging you to take part in Time to Talk Day by organising an event in your location.One in 4 of us will experience a mental health issue in any given year. That is why providing opportunities for conversations about mental health issues are so important – by talking about it we can support ourselves and others.Make space in your day for a conversation about mental health this Time to Talk Day.

We have put together some handy tips to help everyone make the space:

  • Check in with your colleagues and ask them how they’re doing. Host a coffee morning or group lunch, have a conversation and listen to what you hear.
  • Try some ‘ice breaking’ exercises to get people comfortable with the concept of telling stories and relating experiences. Learn something new about each other: favourite music, films, animals or food.
  • This could also be a good opportunity to talk about what helps you to maintain your wellbeing or de-stress. Use a space in your office, intranet or social media to share tips and advice for others based on your own experience.
  • Set up a pledge board in the office. Pledge boards are for staff to write out simple, easy-to-achieve commitments around mental health. For example: I pledge to ask my colleagues to go for a walk at lunch once a week to catch up and take in some fresh air.
