Tip of the day: 4 ways to stay motivated this Dry January

Alcohol Guidance

Congratulations, you have made it half-way through the 744 hours of Dry January - here is some motivation and tips to help you get through the next half!

You may already be experiencing some of the many benefits to having an alochol-free month. Research shows people tend to have improved concentration, blood sugar levels, blood pressure as well as a healthier liver. You may also be sleeping better, have clearer skin, more energy and losing weight (yes, that pint of beer was setting you back at least 182 kcals and a small glass of wine, 159 kcal).

Just think of the money saved this month and the sense of achievement at the end of the month - studies have shown 72% of people that take part in Dry January actually drink less in the six months after!

Here are some top tips to help keep you on track:

  • Make a friend

It isn't too late to convince a friend to have drier January, they can help support you and socialising will be easier with someone to keep an eye on you.

  • Treat yourself

Why not put that money you have saved so far to good use? This way you can see a tangible result of not drinking and something you can use or feel good in! You'll be amazed what four pints or a couple weekends out can buy you.

  • Get a hobby

Ideally you may not want to choose wine tasting as your new hobby but having something to do after a stressful day will take your mind off of relaxing with alcohol. You could start a new novel or run off your stress; exercise can be a great way to encourage weight loss alongside being alcohol-free, put that fresh Sunday to good use!

  • Fake it

Try some of these Mocktail Recipes, this way you won't feel left out at a friend's gathering and still reach the end of the month healthier and happier.
