Research has shown that swimmers experienced a 28% lower risk of early death and a 41% lower risk of death due to heart disease and stroke. To put this into perspective around 70% of the NHS budget goes towards chronic conditions such as diabetes and heart disease, however as suggested, regular physical activity such as swimming can reduce the occurrence of these conditions by 20-40%.
