Obesity Awareness - BMI Check

Healthy Weight

Not only has obesity became a global problem it may be closer to home than you think.

What is it?

Obesity is known as an excess accumulation of body fat that can have a harmful effect on your health. Our bodies are amazing, they help us do our everyday work and hobbies; however, they have an unlimited ability to store fat, which as a result means we are inherently at risk of acquiring an unhealthy amount; unless we adopt a balanced lifestyle.

How is my body weight measured?

Body Mass Index (BMI) is a tool that is used to indicate whether an individual is underweight, at a healthy weight or indeed overweight or obese. This tool uses your height and weight to produce a BMI score; you can find this tool on the Wellbeing Works site by clicking here.

What does your BMI score mean?

- 18.5 to 24.9: means you're a healthy weight

- 25 to 29.9: means you're overweight

- 30 to 39.9: means you're obese

- 40 or above: means you're severely obese

What are the health problems?

Obesity can enforce a number of health problems, such as, type 2 diabetes, heart disease, stroke and various cancers. As well as the conditions mentioned, obesity can lead to many other everyday problems at work, home and in your mental wellbeing.
