How to make your BBQ healthier – Healthy Eating
Healthy DietBBQ’s are a great way to socialise and have some delicious food, that is if we get the weather for them! Whatever the weather, you may want to consider these healthy tips on how to make your BBQ guilt free.
These tips can help you buy healthier options before the BBQ even begins:
- When buying meat, go for the leanest option. As a rule, the more white you can see on meat, the more fat it contains. For example, back bacon contains less fat than streaky bacon.
- Ask your butcher for a lean cut
- If you're buying pre-packed meat, check the nutrition label to see how much fat it contains and compare products
- Go for chicken without the skin as these are lower in fat (or remove the skin before cooking)
- Try to limit processed meat products such as sausages, salami, pâté and beef burgers, because these are generally high in fat – they are often high in salt, too. Why not make your own so you know exactly what goes in them!
