Tips to Stop Rushing Into Stress

Mental Health

Most of us are familiar with rushing around, and a lot of us feel like it is all we seem to do! Rushing around can leave us feeling stressed and it can even get out of hand to the point of feeling like you have lost control.

Lack of time has become a serious issue with people reporting they are willing to break the law such as speeding to avoid being late. For many rushing has become normal, they believe that everyone is also trying to fit a million things into one day. Well, it doesn't have to be that way and it certainly is not natural. The key to not rushing around is creating an organised lifestlye, not a quick fix.

Here are some ways to help put a stop to stressful rushing:

Slow down

It's okay to slow things down, this might involve changing your mind-set. Click here to read more on how to de-stress your state of mind. Just because there is a task to be done, does not mean that it must be done immediately and just because someone asks if can you complete a task for them, does not mean you have to accept. Take regular breaks from your work and approach things with a fresh mind-set, you might discover a more efficient way of completing work.

Prioritise

When you wake in the morning, or even the night before, make a note/schedule of everything you feel you need to get done for that day and when it needs to be done by. This way, you'll have a clear list of your priorities and feel cool, calm and ready to work through what needs to be done. This will also help you avoid leaving things to the last minute.

Give yourself some time

Try not to schedule back to back tasks or meetings. Give yourself at least 15 minutes in-between, this will give you some breathing space and help to lower the tempo from your previous task so you can approach the next with your full attention.

Set alarms

Try setting alarms throughout your day to ensure that you complete each task on time. For example, in the morning set an alarm for every 10 minutes. In each slot, give yourself a certain amount of things to do before moving onto the next part of your morning routine. This will allow you to avoid getting distracted or spending too much time on simple tasks, making your morning a lot less stressful.
